Private Edition - a 360° implementation

Activate, migration to the cloud, integrations, extensions, monitoring and maintenance.

Implementation (SAP Activate)

A methodical Private Edition rollout following the SAP Activate phases.

  • A project roadmap with phases, tasks, deliverables and milestones.
  • Working from ready-made processes as a starting point, using a fit-to-standard approach.
  • Explore workshops to confirm processes and gather change requirements.
  • Iterative rollout, configuration, integrations and testing in the Realize phase.
  • Cutover and production go-live in the Deploy phase.
  • Continuous work in the Run phase, including maintenance for future updates.

Migration and conversion

Moving to the cloud via system conversion or a new implementation.

  • Moving to the cloud at your own pace, aligned with the organization's transformation.
  • Conversion of an existing SAP ERP or SAP S/4HANA on-premise system to a compatible release.
  • Alternative: a new implementation on a "clean landscape".
  • Modernizing the approach to extensions toward a stable "clean core".
  • Preparing for fit-to-standard workshops and organizing the requirements backlog.
  • Cutover plan and organizational readiness as part of the Deploy phase.

Integrations

Connecting Private Edition with other systems and monitoring integrations.

  • A library of APIs, events and connectors in the SAP Business Accelerator Hub.
  • Prepackaged integrations and integration content tailored to Private Edition.
  • A side-by-side approach: integrations and extensions handled outside the core.
  • Monitoring and alerts supporting business continuity in SAP Cloud ALM.
  • An integrated view of the SAP landscape running on different technologies.
  • Integration stability through separating extensions from the core layer.

Extensions (BTP/ABAP)

In-app and side-by-side extensibility to keep the core stable.

  • In-app: changes and extensions within the application (front-end or back-end).
  • Key user extensibility: minor changes in SAP Fiori with no development experience required.
  • Developer extensibility: ABAP in a cloud-ready, upgrade-stable model, on "released" objects.
  • Classic extensibility remains available, alongside the "ABAP for Cloud Development" option.
  • Side-by-side: extensions on a separate platform, communicating through integrations.
  • Separating extensions from the core makes upgrades easier without affecting the Client's changes.

Updates and maintenance

Managing the release cycle, upgrades and ongoing work.

  • Private Edition is based on SAP S/4HANA on-premise hosted in the SAP private cloud.
  • The same release cycle as SAP S/4HANA on-premise (every two years).
  • A requirement to update at least once every 7 years to maintain mainstream maintenance.
  • Updates carried out at the organization's own pace; SAP supports the technical upgrade activities.
  • Reducing upgrade risk by separating extensions from the core.
  • Run phase: assessing the novelty and business value of subsequent changes after go-live.

Monitoring and management

SAP Cloud ALM for implementation, operations and the connection to SAP support.

  • Implementation: a preconfigured workspace and guidance through the project.
  • Managing implementation, testing and deployment according to SAP Activate.
  • Operations: a central point for managing the entire SAP landscape.
  • Proactive monitoring and alerts supporting business continuity.
  • Service section: direct connection to SAP support services.
  • Monitoring for Private Edition based on a PUSH mechanism to SAP Cloud ALM.

Implementation stages

The six phases of SAP Activate structure the journey from decision to steady-state operation: from scoping, through fit-to-standard workshops and iterative builds, to cutover and monitoring in SAP Cloud ALM.
